Spot Sublimation

Although Spot Dye Sublimation uses the same process of image transfer as wrap around printing, it’s localized to a single area. Dye sublimation on apparel opens a world of possibilities to customers and designers. Spot dye sublimation allows the customer to produce full color, individual elements to multiple or single shirts when needed. This is an excellent option for player-names on jersey and other team apparel. Designs are printed first to a transfer material, which is then matched by hand to 100% polyester shirts and other apparel.

Pressure and heat (approximately 400°) convert the dyes to a gas, trapping it onto the fabric, which ensures excellent color transfer.

Every process has limitations. As the Rankin Textile Printing technicians work on customer orders, its best for customers to keep a few things in mind while placing orders or planning their own designs:

  • All pieces are produced, handled and inspected individually, so variations in placement are to be expected.
  • If you intend to apply several pieces of art or separate spot dye sublimations to a single piece of apparel, we recommend planning for space in between them. Placement will vary slightly.
  • During dye sublimation on tshirts, shirts and other wearable items, fabric is laid flat and gently stretched.
  • While dye sublimation can be printed to colored shirts, using white shirts will provide the most vibrant color.

Original artwork can begin with computer-generated files, photographs or hand-drawn art. Dye sublimation to apparel creates no texture. So the feel of the fabric is continuous. Turn your imagination loose and ask Rankin Textile Printing about your latest spot designs!
